[ he does NOT reach out to touch any shadow people, and in fact when she does, he recoils a bit.

she might get the impression that he is ... a bit of a wimp?
]

It's very creepy. And I've seen creepy.

Hm. Let me think. Have you ever heard of Toy Island?

[personal profile] frogzoned 2023-06-11 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It is not. It is an island where children go to escape their responsibilities, but the twist of course is that over time they turned into donkeys [ of course] and then hot dogs [ of course?? ]. Very disgusting hot dogs.

Hm? Oh, yes. It is Pinocchio's story yes. He was quite excited to show us. I believe he oversold the experience a little, in my opinion. I did not care for it. His friend attempted to kill me for my meat.

[ how can you possibly set aside the hot dogs. ]

Not exactly.

[ the hot dogs. ]

The thing about stories is they ... continue. Sometimes.

They don't always warn you that happily ever after means that you must continue the "after." You sometimes think that everything is going to come easily, since that's how you obtained it in the first place.

[ Hrm. ]

It didn't always used to be this way, either. Though, from what I can tell, the hot dogs were always a thing?

Mm.

[ yeah. weird, right, that the story of the frog prince ends with true love breaking a curse. wonder what it means when the handsome prince ... is turning back into a frog. he seems to be really deep in thought for a minute or so at that, but then after a second: ]

I've spoken about myself a great deal. I think it'd only be fair if you spoke about yourself.

Hello, Alex.

[ that's fine. Just Alex it is. ]

And I take it you are the same as everyone else here? Unclear memories of your time right before arriving?

Yes, that would be ... similar for me.

[ though. ]

I could see what could have happened. Potentially. Lots of things going wrong all at once.

[ hah! yeah. too real, man! too real. ]

I understand the hope, but I've found that terrible things do often happen astonishingly quickly lately. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. But I agree. It should not have been so quickly. It was nice to ... have a rest from all of that.

Yes.

[ BLUNT. ]

Though, Death is certainly a more nebulous concept. Here it seems the idea is permenancency. Your story being erased entirely, rather than something as simple as dying.

I could only offer my own understanding of it - of what I've seen of something similar - and they agreed. But if they are answering differently or evasively, I think the answer can only really be that perhaps that don't know themselves.
