Just giving us a moment to forget about it for one loop. [ yeah... it was fun. ] Ah, of course, because we skipped out on the meeting, everyone else came to the decision of sending the both of us to cold sleep.
[ RIP. but Setsu doesn't seem or sound mad by that decision. it's fair actually? they weren't involved so that can be seen as suspicious ] That was fine. We got to have some fun, even if was shortlived.
[ yeah... it's fine. cold sleep happens.. loop ends... new one begins! ]
You've never tried before?
[ since that's all for the lower deck, Setsu will briefly raise a hand before the scene changes entirely. it just straight up looks like a cafeteria yeah. ]
[ alex walks down the little row of tables, mostly just to be moving, peering around this room. it's so sterile. not like the cafeterias at school that are colorful and noisy and spacious. ]
Uh, I don't actually... remember any other loops. So...
[ she is definitely going to poke at that, curious. also because she likes to have a distraction. ]
I really only know it's loops because... The ghosts kept saying so. That I've done this before. Made them do this before. I can't always remember how conversations went, or what order everything happened in. But it—it feels familiar?
[ while she pokes, a menu is shown. apparently, you can print food here?? hm. it shows ramen, miso soup, dried sardines, and various other foods as options... except no dishes that have fresh fish. or cooked meat. weird. ]
You've gone through enough that you're starting to pick up on it from feeling. That's something... not once has anyone outside Takashi and I noticed we're in loops. But, the structure of the loops seems different compared to the loops you and Jonas both have gone through. As far as I can tell.
[ tapping at dried sardines just to see what happens... ]
Yeah, there are like... small loops throughout the night. Like, five minutes at a time will keep repeating and playing out different. Jonas can't always tell when it's happening.
And then there's the whole night? I think? I think it's different?
[ a tap... and, well, the machine produces a plate of dried sardines. wow. it's still a simulation so even if she eats them it won't really be filling, but there will still be a taste? so, if she does eat them, well i guess let me know. ]
[ good. because Setsu seems to watch her with an "ah" expression when they catch sight of the dried sardines. ]
I see.. the structure does sound a bit complicated. ..Maybe this is a bit strange, but I kinda wish I could experience it for myself. [ to understand? just as they did with their own loops. but they'll gesture at the food for something else to supply her with. ]
It's a food printer. It instantly provides healthy cuisine well-balanced in nutrients. But, the flavor is... not good. All the options are too healthy for some of the people on board. A lot of the ingredients come from the Synthesis Plant.
[ no, they get it, nobody would want to go through the consequences of loops. just like they would not wish anyone to be in their own shoes. the kind of reactions they've gotten even talking about them... some of the stares, the incredibility as they question how Setsu hasn't gone insane... that enough tells them. ]
Highly nutritional, but the flavoring isn't good. Which it makes a bit of sense since the Synthesis Plant synthesizes the ingredients for the most part. Outside the fresh vegetables Stella tends to grow in the lab.
[ honestly, setsu has probably gone through things similar enough to what alex considers the worst parts of the night. seeing her friends hurt and dead again and again. or finding yourself suddenly alone in unpredictable, sudden moments of uncertainty.
but she just nods. anyway. food is a more fun subject. ]
They don't really compare to freshly made food, or anything you've had back home I'm sure but... they aren't completely terrible. At least better than the flavoring here by the food printer.
[ so whenever someone on board is like "oh, food..." setsu kindly offers their military rations.
anyways, they'll walk for a bit but eventually come to this room. a huge "plant" that can synthesize almost anything, regardless of material. there's a larger printer here, really. however, items such as weapons require special permission to produce. over by the screen actually seems to be... a map of the ship! they're currently located in the "free room" which is on the middle deck on the left side between the laboratory, meeting room and gym. ]
Maybe... I think it's because I've gotten so used to surviving on military rations, I can't really see them as terrible.
[ it's something familiar. the laboratory is next door if she wants to see, but so far nothing else stands out in this room outside the map and the printer. ]
I think it's a bit more enjoyable to try things with company. But, a lot of the time I end up just exploring the new areas than the food places.
[ so they end up sticking with what they know. also the last time they tried something by themselves it was fried milk and they mooed at people for an hour. ]

I wonder what happens if I break script like that. I wonder... what the script even looks like?

You don't? [ a quiet ponder. ] I.. suppose that would make sense. After all, I'm only able to remember all of mine because of the key.

Minor small loops... inside a bigger loop?

Like—the start of that memory. We were walking and then it started over. That kind of thing would happen a lot.

Man. What a waste. You can get printed food but it all sucks?

[ it sounds like a joke? but it might be true. they'll gesture to the door. ]
Since we're on the topic of the Synthesis Plant and the lab, we can head to those places next if you're interested.

Yeah let's—wait, really? Military rations? Do those taste good?
